Humboldt County CalCannabis Appellations Project Public Workshop

By Events

The California Department of Food and Agriculture will be holding a CalCannabis Appellations Project Public Workshop in Humboldt County on Wednesday, September 12th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sequoia Conference Center, Room B located at 901 Myrtle Avenue in Eureka.

The CDFA is looking for feedback from the cannabis community to help establish a framework for the CalCannabis Appellations Project. You can attend the workshop and share your suggestions. Your feedback will help to establish appellations of practices, standards and varieties applicable in a specific geographic region in California.

Visit the CalCannabis website for more information about the Appellations Project.

Call It Cannabis

By Education, Media

Steve Gieder, Executive Director of Humboldt Green helped encourage California politicians to start using the term cannabis instead of marijuana. Back in 2015, Gavin Newsome the Lieutenant Governor of California traveled to Garberville with the Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana Policy to hold a public forum to hear from the Emerald Triangle Farmers directly. Steve stepped up to the microphone to educate and convince the visiting politicians to stop using the derogatory term marijuana and to start calling the healing plant cannabis instead.

In the past three years, we’ve seen a healthy transition in the media and with our California politicians towards using the term cannabis. Steve and Humboldt Green are proud to help foster this positive change in our industry.

Joe Knows – County Permits & State Licensing

By Consulting

This week’s topic for Joe Knows, Joe Moran General Manager of 1 Degree Consulting empowered by Humboldt Green discusses the importance of finishing your local permit and your temporary annual license. Interim Humboldt County Permits are set to expire on September 30th. The problem with the expiration date is that some Farmers are not going to be done harvesting by then. You MUST be active in your application process and show that your paperwork is in motion. Some folks need to follow up with road evaluation reports, biology surveys, security plans and other types of reports. The 1 Degree Consulting team can help you complete all of the necessary paperwork and help secure your final County permit. State temporary licenses are also set to expire soon. It helps to streamline things if you’ve got everything in order for your County permit first and then you can ease on into your State Annual License. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. The 1 Degree Consulting team can help you get there! Don’t let your temp applications fall by the wayside during harvest season. Give the 1 Degree Consulting office a call at 707.890.6600.

Cannifest Announcement: Manifesting New Date

By Events

While navigating the recent changes in our Industry both at a state and local level, Humboldt Green would like to advise all of our supporters that we are currently unable to produce CANNIFEST 2018 in May due to lack of policies written by the Humboldt County Planning Division, Redwood Acres Fairgrounds and Humboldt County Fairgrounds.

In establishing our desire to host a fully regulated and legal event, it is clear that even with applying for our Cannabis Event Organizer License from the state, there are other elements that would need to happen first which are out of our control.

Cannabis events in general will take on a new identity this year such as all attendees will be 21 and over, all licensed vendors and only dispensaries may sell to consumers. Knowing this, we have done what we could to gear up, but it seems that the county is not ready-which in turn, has slowed us to a halt.

We will continue to work towards the goal of producing events both locally and afar that shine light on the small farmer, the environment and our community of educators and innovators.

We appreciate all of your support as we readjust. Stay tuned for an update soon.
